The strange, South African protea flower has become a national symbol, flourishing at the heart of the fynbos, a mountainous, coastal ecosystem of exceptional biodiversity, benefiting from the Mediterranean climate of the Western Cape. Enshrined majestically at the center of this carré, in a fresh interpretation of a traditional, stylized design, the bloom evokes the signature ceramics produced by the Ardmore collective, the creative force behind this striking composition. Established by Fee Halsted in 1985, in KwaZulu Natal, this group of Zulu, Zimbabwean and Sotho artists aims to promote creativity and preserve the region’s aesthetic heritage. This is their third carré for the House of Hermès, following The Savana dance and La marche du Zambèze. - Hermes.com
